Financial support is available through the following means:

Embrace Families’ provider partners assign trained case manager specialists to work with and advocate for children, teens and young adults throughout their time in foster care. When a young adult in foster care turns 18, nothing should change. With the teen’s agreement, he or she is able to stay in the same foster home, continue with the same case manager, and rely on the same team for support.

In Florida, a young adult who turns 18 has the option to remain in foster care until age 21, as long as they are in school or working. A group of supporters and champions continues to work with our older teens and young adults, to make sure that they make progress toward an agreed upon plan; whether that is to continue their education, obtain a job, or participate in a program designed to build job skills.  And this is not a “one and done” decision.  Teens and young adults who go out on their own can return to Embrace Families for assistance up to age 21, as long as they are prepared to work towards education and career goals.

Embrace Families provides financial assistance for young adults formerly in the foster care system who are pursuing education past high school. PESS stipends are in the monthly amount of $1,256. Payments are not made to the student; instead, Embrace Families makes all housing and utility payments for the student. Any remaining funds are disbursed to the student to assist with other living expenses. PESS is limited to Florida Bright Futures eligible schools.
