Our Keys to Independence program made national news this past week as stations throughout the United States aired stories about this pioneering Embrace Families program, which has become a model for states and communities nationwide.  To see WFTV story, click here.

The K2I team travelled to DC to present results of research that reflects the positive impact this program has had on well-being outcomes for teens and young adults in foster care.  The third-party analysis of Keys to Independence program data highlights the benefit of having a driver’s license for youth in foster care, specifically: When compared to their counterparts, youth in foster care with a learner’s permit or driver’s license are more likely to have received their high school diploma/GED or higher; and more likely to be employed (full or part time).

The findings support Florida’s continued investment in providing access for youth in foster care to earn a driver’s license.  To view the full K2I Report to Congress, click here
